The Touchon & Co 19 Jewel Pocket Watch Movement
By far the most common pocket watch movement produced by Touchon was the 19 jewel 8 adjustments type which they produced in two main styles, with the most common having several thicknesses.
Firstly, and the most commonly encountered is the type seemingly preferred by Tiffany & Co and generally signed by both companies either with both signatures on the barrel bridge or one on the barrel bridge and one on the centre bridge. Note the gold gear train and large jewels.
This type is however not as straightforward as it seems as it was produced in several calibers with barely detectable differences in some cases, but sufficient to cause difficulties with the interchange of parts. Two movements in my possession appear identical when viewed flat, but one is in fact only half the depth of the other one ..... couple this with the lack of accessible factory records and accurate caliber identification becomes very difficult indeed.
To date, in fact I have seen what I would term medium, slim and ultra-slim versions of this movement with the early ones generally being of medium thickness. The type preferred by Tiffany was the slim variety, whereas the ultra-slim variety is extremely rare.
